Olympics

Way Off Topic No Comments »

We haven’t watched much of the Olympics but hopefully we will catch some of the games this year.

My favorite events are the swimming ones followed by gymnastics. We need to check into tv lifts so that we can watch the games better on our TV. Right now we will just have to make do with what we have.

We missed the opening ceremonies that I heard were quite spectacular. Maybe we will catch it on the Internet since I am curious as to what they did. I remember watching the opening ceremonies for the 1996 games but that’s about it.

Still we’ll have two weeks of events, 24 hour coverage, and a slew of spinoff Internet site promotions. Should be a fun August.

Air Purifier for Gaming

News came out a few months ago that the Wii is very sensitive to dust and smoke. Many gamers were reporting that their Wiis were acting up. Nintendo agreed to clean the consoles for free but warned of the dangers of smoking around your Wii.

So, if you smoke, you might want to consider and air purifiers. You can even buy them online through websites like Austin Air air purifiers. Locally we were limited to what we can buy as the store only has 1 or 2 brands. But online you can find just exactly what fits your needs.

If you do want to get one for your gaming console, then get one that will fit near your game setup. They do sell tabletop air purifiers that do work extremely well. We bought one for about $15. The filters that need to be replaced about once a month cost about $7.

An air purifier might be a worthy investment if you game and smoke. It might just save you a repair.

Wii Wait

I’m still on the search for a reasonably priced copy of Wii Fit. It’s not in stores and online it’s incredibly expensive. As I patiently wait for Wii Fit to be available, I have decided to get my workout wardrobe in order.

I really need some workout shoes as mine has holes in them. Ecco shoes has one pair of athletic shoes but they do look comfortable. I would love to find a pair of shoes like the ones I already have that are falling apart. They really are comfortable.

Besides shoes, I really need some workout clothing. Maybe if I dress the part then I will want to workout longer. You know, like some sort of mind game I can play on myself.

Maybe I won’t have to wait my longer for Wii Fit. I’m ready to play now.

Spring Vacation

My niece went to Atlanta this week to see ‘The Lion King.’ They also toured the Coca-Cola Museum. Her trip to Atlanta made me think back to one of our spring trips to the same city.

It was way back when we had been married for maybe two years. There was a pre-release tournament for some Magic the Gathering set. We had just really gotten into the game and decided to go. The tournament was okay. I didn’t win a game, but I think my husband won a few. We did buy some other collectible cards while there and had a great time playing that game.

We also went to Stone Mountain and saw the laser show. We took a blanket and found us a nice spot to be until the show started. It was so relaxing. The show was a lot of fun and very impressive. There is not telling just what they can do now since technology has advanced so much.

There are plenty of things to do in Atlanta in the spring. Take in a ball game, go to Six Flags, or visit the Coca-Cola Museum. There is so much to do that we are making another trip this fall to Atlanta and hope to work in some more fun stuff.

To find more sightseeing tours, we are checking into Trusted Tours & Attractions because they offer discounts to sightseeing tours in 23 cities, and Atlanta happens to be one of them. I’m also interested in Things to do in Las Vegas since we really want to go there one day.

But that may be a while away. Of course, I can sign up for the Trusted Tours & Attractions newsletter to keep up with all the news and information. That way I won’t forget about their website or our future plans. Plus if I sign up now, I have a chance at winning a handheld GPS that surely will come in handy when we travel to Atlanta.

On Tap This Weekend

Summer is almost here and there are several local events happening this weekend. Today we have a kids expo. It will be a good way to find out what is going on this summer for kids. Sunday is BirdFest at the local zoo but we won’t be able to make that because of a birthday party.

Aside from these activities, I have two casual games for review that I want to get ‘in the bag’ this weekend. One is Slingo and the other is a smaller, independent game with lots of promise, Paradoxion. I’ve really enjoyed playing it so far and can’t wait to share more about it.

It always seems I want to do so much on the weekend and never get half of my projects done. The expo will probably knock out most of my morning and part of the afternoon. The birthday party will take up tomorrow afternoon. Who needs sleep, right?

Bargains

I not only like game bargains but grocery bargains, too. The prices just seem to go up each week at the local grocer. That’s one reason I’ve started using grocery coupons that can help me to save some money.

The Penny Pincher Gazette is a free resource for finding and printing grocery coupons. I usually check the weekly grocery fliers for deals and specials. But having a one-stop website to find those deals cuts down time, especially since you can print coupons that you need.

Not only can you find the weekly circulars but recipes and articles. The recipes featured also have a coupon for one of the ingredients. That makes finding something to cook that much more affordable.

If it’s not a game bargain, then at least let it be a grocery bargain. There are plenty of those to find at the Penny Pincher Gazette.

Cell Service

While there is a lot that we can do on our phones like take pictures or play games, sometimes it’s actually nice to use it to make a phone call. Well, for us sometimes it’s not so easy to use our cell phones for that purpose. Why? Because our signal is not very strong at our house. In fact, sometimes it takes a few minutes of walking around to find a strong signal.

I’ve been wanting to try a mobile cell phone booster to see if it would actually help signal strength. When I received on for review from Powerful Signal, I was really excited. I was even more thrilled with how this product works. Installation was very easy. I don’t like to read instructions to play games much less to install electronic equipment. Within a few minutes, I had it set up and was already getting a stronger cell phone signal.

It has been so great to have reliable service in our home again. We love living in the country but no cell service makes me miss the city. Now I don’t have to miss the city life as we can add one more convenience to our list. Now to just get cable TV, and we’ll be set.

Ride ‘em Cowboy

Have you ever been to a rodeo? If you haven’t, then you need to make plans to go to one. It is a blast. I have only been to local ones but always had a great time.

My favorite events have to do with barrel racing. Of course, who doesn’t enjoy watching the bull riding with all it’s intensity? One thing about the rodeo that just blew my mind was that there was a band that actually played music during events. Someone had mentioned that it doesn’t bother the animals because during practice they play music to get the animals accustomed to the loud noise. And it worked because none of the horses or cows seemed to mind all the ruckus.

The National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada is the granddaddy of rodeos. It’s best to grab your National Final Rodeo tickets early for best seating because it is a very popular venue. This is the Super Bowl of rodeos and was established way back in the 1950s to determine the champions for the seven sports of rodeo: calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, and team roping.

Calf roping is my other favorite event. It’s fun to watch each contestant with their different techniques roping a calf. As the contest really gets going, it’s almost like you want to coach them on like “throw the rope! You’re wasting time! The other guy threw a lot sooner than this!”

One day I hope to make it to the big show. It’ll be an experience to remember forever.

For Christmas, I got a digital photo frame that I absolutely adore. For those who take digital photos, a digital photo frame gives you an easy, flexible way to view and share your photos.

Digital Frames Direct has a lot of digital photo frames to choose. There is also plenty of information for the first-time buyer to find information about digital photo frames like what type of memory cards they use, etc. You can also find user reviews of digital photo frames.

I can tell you that I love mine. It is, aside from my PSP, the best Christmas present ever. So, as you can tell, I think that digital picture frames make great gifts and so does Digital Frames Direct. They even have information on giving digital photo frames as corporate gifts.

My digital photo frame stays at home but I would love a second one for work. With all the digital photo frames at Digital Frames Direct, I am sure to find something within budget and perfect for work.
