Apple’s iPhone

News No Comments »

We are in need of a new cellular phone. Since the announcement of the Apple iPhone, we have been intrigued by it. Here are some great pictures of the iPhone:

The iPhone is very feature rich. I like the touch screen controls that is built to ignore accidental touches. The battery life of the iPhone will last for 300 minutes of phone conversation. The iPhone looks to have it all: MP3 playback, PDA-like function, and a built in digital camera. The iPhone will also have downloadable games as well.

We may have to keep our current phones for a few more months since the iPhone isn’t due to hit the market until the summer.

The line starts here

While making our nightly trip to Wal-Mart, I noticed a sign on the door that said that the line for the PlayStation 3 will be at the other Wal-Mart. Sale of the PS3 will commence at 12am November 17th.

Tomorrow is the 16th, and I will have to go check out if there is actually a line that will form to buy the PS3. I’m sure there will be especially since Sony announced the production numbers for the PS3. I’ll try and remember the camera to snap a few pics.

Wii adds DVD Playback

Nintendo recently announced it has hired a company to add DVD playback functionality to the Wii. The CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator will support video and audio playback as well as feature some cool functions like widescreen, motion video, and different angle views.

Unfortunately, this feature of the Wii is not yet available. Expect it to be on Wii models late next year.

Wii Commercial

I saw a commercial last night for the Nintendo Wii. It featured two Japanese guys who drive up to someone’s house in the smallest car. It makes a Yugo look like a sedan. They hop out of the car, go inside, and play games on the Wii.

When the woman answers the door, the men say “Wii” then come on in and begin playing games that feature the motion detection controls. They bowl and play tennis with the Wii controller while using it to act out their moves. It was pretty cool. It was cool enough to make me rethink about getting a Wii for Christmas.

PS3 Backward Compatibility

News No Comments »

The PlayStation 3 was released this past weekend in Japan. Apparently some PSOne and PS2 games are not working with the PS3. Sony has released a list of games that will not play on the PlayStation 3. The Japanese PlayStation.com lets a player check game title to see if it is compatible with the PS3.

Since I have sold all of my PSOne games and don’t have any PS2 games, I shouldn’t have too much to worry about with compatibility. My own worry is coming up with the money to buy a PS3.

Congrats to Julie and Michael!

The winning couple of the PayPerPost Wedding is Julie and Michael. As you may have read on my blog, I voted for this couple.

Now I can’t wait for the wedding! The wedding will be in just a few days. I’m sure the couple is feeling the stress but at least it won’t last long. We spent six grueling months planning our wedding. By the time of the Big Day, my nerves were fried. I couldn’t even complete a thought.

Congrats to the other two couples, Mike and Corrin and Jamey and Lauren, on their upcoming weddings. Here’s an Irish Wedding Blessing for all the couples:

May God be with you and bless you
May you see your children’s children
May you be poor in misfortunes,
Rich in blessings
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward

Welcome to the Gun Show

As I have mentioned before, I love racing video games. In fact, I love all things racing. I’ve only been to the local racetracks but would enjoy seeing some bigger races live.

Muscle cars are also a passion of mine. I had a 1966 Ford Mustang that was my baby before the little one came along. Now that I no longer have the Mustang, I am content for now to watch muscle cars on television.

A Muscle Car Marathon will air Nov. 24 at 9am EST on Speed TV. So, once you get your quota of football on Thanksgiving Day, enjoy the Muscle Car Marathon Friday. Check out my muscle. Reminds me I need to go to the gym.

PS 2 gets a facelift

News No Comments »

Out this week is the Sony PlayStation 2 silver design. Overall weight of the PS 2 has been halved in this new version. It costs $129.99.

I was hoping the PS2 would drop down to below $100 but looks like that may take a while, if ever. With a newly revamped model, the PS2 looks to be a strong console system for a while even in the face of the next gen consoles. I may have to bite the bullet and buy one at $129.99. It seems $129 is the magic number. The new DS Lite is also $129 and also on my wish list.

18 year old leaves school to play video games

News No Comments »

Kids, do not quit high school to play video games! Although this is somewhat a success story, it is just a bad idea. Get your education!!

Tom Taylor dropped out of high school so he could play more video games. Now known as Tsquared on the gaming circuit, Tom is one of 100 professional gamers associated with Major League Gaming. Six months into his video game playing career, Tom signed a $250,000 contract.

I think Tom is very lucky. Sure, who wouldn’t like to play video games for a living but it’s best to be realistic. This is not a very wide open field, and it’s very competitive. I’m not trying to discourage anyone from following their dream, just to have a backup plan.
