A New Haircut

Fitness Revolution No Comments »

I got a new haircut recently that I really like. It’s shorter than I’ve had it in years. Now with this shorter hair comes a few problems that I didn’t foresee like my face looking a little bigger now. I’m not ready to to research Raleigh rhinoplasty nose surgery but am ready to start working on losing weight in my face.

I’m not sure exactly how to do that. I have to assume that once I start losing weight that the extra weight in my face will also melt away. It does seem that the face is one of the first places I notice weight loss. So hopefully soon I will begin to see a major difference in my facial appearance.

It’s just another incentive to get this extra weight off that’s for sure.

Gaming and Exercising

I’ve been off track on my fitness revolution plan, which should come as no surprise. It seems it is so hard to get the ball rolling. Hopefully once it is finally in motion, it will be easier to maintain an active lifestyle.

So, I might as well set some fitness goals for each day. Maybe start out with 10 minutes of DDR each day this week. That should be easy enough to do. Then I will add to it once I get into a routine of doing something each day. Why are bad habits so easy to form but good ones are so hard? It just doesn’t seem fair. If only I could convince myself that exercising was bad for me then I’d be set.

DDR Universal Dance Mat

Fitness Revolution No Comments »

The main component of my fitness revolution is the dance with Dance Dance Revolution to burn calories, get in a great cardio workout, and hopefully lose weight. I had picked up a copy of DDR Max 2 for the PS2 for just $1. I figured since I got such a great deal on the game that I could splurge and get a universal DDR dance mat.

Our other DDR mat can only be used with the XBox. It’s on OK mat but slips on our carpet. I haven’t used the mat on flooring and I’ve only used the new mat on flooring, so I really can’t say if it is the floor that is making the big difference. But I do have to say that I really like the universal mat a lot better. It’s bigger and just seems better quality. Here is the little one busting some moves with the new DDR pad.

Maybe because I play the game better with the new pad that I think it’s a lot better. I have a feeling I will be buying another one since I doubt my husband will want to use the older mat once he has used the new DDR pad.

Monitoring Fitness

Part of my fitness revolution is to track my progress. I’ve been thinking about investing in some gadgets to help me see the improvements to my health. I’ve never had a need to use a pulse oximeter to check the oxygen in my blood. Luckily my health issues aren’t serious enough to warrant it. If I can get in shape, then maybe I won’t develop problems that need constant attention.

I would like a device that measures my heart rate. It’s good to get your heart rate going when exercising since it pumps more blood. I will have to do a little more research on target heart rate and a good rate to have when working out. I’ve never been able to find my pulse or to measure it really accurately. Some device meant to do just that would be a great little tool in my fitness revolution.

This weekend I do plan to buy a DDR mat for the PS2 thanks to a little extra money in the budget this week. Now I can see if my $1 DDR PS2 game works and finally start the revolution properly.

I’m Walking

I really wished I enjoyed walking for the sake of walking. I don’t, though. I’m hoping that by forcing myself to walk each day that a desire to walk will develop.

Saturday I have entered a fundraising walk. It will be good to walk with a lot of people. Too bad there isn’t something going on each weekend like this. I need to tie in my walking with gaming somehow. Maybe for every minute I walk I will allow that much uninterrupted game time the next day. I get Mommy guilt a lot when I play games, so I usually don’t play for that long. But if I have earned 20 minutes or an hour of time that I can take to play games, then maybe the guilt will be lessened. It’s worth giving a shot as I really need some sort of motivation to walk.

Learning to Dance

Dance will be a key element in my fitness revolution since I will be dancing away to Dance Dance Revolution quite a bit. I would also like to add more dances to my fitness plan. Dancing is a great way to lose some weight as we’ve seen on Dancing with the Stars. John O’Hurley lost 20 pounds during his season on the show. That’s enough incentive for me to learn ballroom dance right there.

I’ve attended a few ballroom dance classes but everything happens so fast that it’s hard to get that personal attention. Around here there is only group classes, so individual lessons just aren’t available to take. Dancecrazy.com offers instructional videos to teach you dance. You can learn ballroom dancing or even line dancing. The best thing with videos is that you can pause and rewind to watch that footwork once or ten more times without holding up the progress of the class.

Dance Crazy does offer a unique way to learn dance in the privacy of your home. That means no more trips out of town to learn dance. I feel dance will be an important element in my weightloss goals and becoming overall more healthy. Besides dancing is just fun to do, and it will be great to learn to properly dance from the privacy of my own home. That way when I fall over my own feet I’m the only one laughing about it.

Dance Dance for PS2

Fitness Revolution No Comments »

I picked up a Dance Dance Revolution game for the PS2 today at the local thrift store. It was only $1. I will need a mat to use it but thought that for $1 I can’t pass it up. Who knows, next week they may have a mat for $2.

I bought DDRMax 2 and can’t wait to give it a spin in the PlayStation 2. Although I don’t have a mat, I might can use a controller just to get used to some of the songs. It might help to improve my playing performance. I’m so uncoordinated when it comes to DDR so any kind of edge I can get I should use.

I like that with DDr you can keep up with your calories burned in workout mode. It’ll be fun to explore the new-to-me DDR game on the PS2. I wonder what kind of calories I can burn by giving my thumbs a workout because I’m playing with a controller than a mat?

Getting in Shape

This week’s lesson learned from our moving is that I really need to get in shape. After packing, I am sore from head to toe, not to mention how exhausted I feel. It really shows just how much I need to eat right, exercise, and just get healthy.

Strongernutrition.com has a wide variety of sports nutrition products that I find very interesting and will possibly help me in my quest to become fit. Instead of having to scroll through pages of products, I can search for products by my goal. If I want to lose weight, then I can find just products that will help me do that. Since I’m looking to become healthier, I decided to browse the stay fit catalog.

Since I don’t really know a lot about sports nutrition products, I find it extremely helpful that listed with each product is a simple line that tells what the product does. For example, look at the product page of ABC & Tea. After the description of the product and located in the blue bar is a synopsis of the product. For ABC & Tea, at a glance I can tell it is for renewed energy and health. This information is also listed on the catalog page where you can browse all products by your goal. It does make it easier for a neophyte to find what they are looking for without having to waddle through a bunch of listings.

You can also add a product to your favorites, so it will be easier to find at a later date. That could be a very handy feature since I may find several products of interest. Then I can find those listings again without any problems since I’m not that familiar with sports nutrition products.

I had joked that I needed to take my vitamins before beginning to pack. Now I’m thinking that I need vitamins and a few other supplements that I found on Stronger Nutrition. Once we get settled into our new place, the fitness revolution begins in earnest.

Fitness Revolution

Some of the games for the Wii have me excited since they are about getting some exercise while having fun. I really want to get fit and lose weight. While diet products like hydroxycut are so tempting, I not only want to lose weight but get fit. It will take changing the way I eat and adding exercise into my daily life to get the results I want.

I have every reason in the world to get fit. I have an almost two year old who is my world, and I want to keep up with her. But being a gamer I really love nothing more than sitting in front of the TV or computer playing games. Luckily with the Wii coupled with Dance Dance Revolution and Yourself!fitness, this gamer might actually have a shot at getting fit while playing video games.

I plan to fully start my fitness revolution the first of the month since we are in the middle of moving. I will have to layout my goals for September and hopefully I can reach them. Progress reports and updates will be posted here. Maybe accountability will also help to keep me on track.
