Gaming Time

Fitness Revolution 4 Comments »

So, in the new year I hope to drop a few pounds through playing video games like Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, etc. The idea is to be more active while playing and to actually burn a few calories. That means standing up and playing games, so playing games in the recliner will be a no no.

I will need to look up some information on how many calories are burned when at rest, asleep, and exercise. DDR will keep track of how many calories you are burning, so for less active games I will burn less calories. Hopefully I can guesstimate an amount that will be conservative but close to the actual calories that will be burned.

Before the new year gets here, it’s just another thing I need to do to make sure we get off on the right track with our weight loss plan.

PS2 Dance Pad

I always go way overboard with spending in December. One purchase I am proud of is Boogie for the PS2. I’m hoping the game will fit into my fitness revolution plan for 2008. I have already begun buying some exercise equipment just in case the pounds do not drop off with a video game regime.

I’m hoping to use my PS2 dance pad with Boogie, although I’m not sure it will work. It doesn’t say it is compatible, but I thought I might try just to see if I could use it. I noticed that Dancing with the Stars is compatible with the PS2 dance pad and might be a future purchase that I will make.

Tuesday begins my first day on my made up program. Hopefully I can lose a pound a week by watching what I eat and doing fun exercises.

Golf as Exercise?

I’ve decided to slowly start my diet today instead of waiting for the new year. Why? Well last night we had our family Christmas at my parents’ house, so basically all of the sweets should be less of a temptation from this point forward. We do have Christmas with my husband’s family but won’t be traveling until after the big day, so there will be less sweets.

Since I plan to begin today, I need to do some sort of exercise. I will probably do some in home walking with my Christmas mix of music I bought on Amazon. I am still coming up with fun ways to exercise.

I enjoy hitting the golf ball around although I wouldn’t call myself a golfer. I just ‘window shop’ at Mizuno golf for golfing equipment, so I’m not serious about taking it up as a hobby just yet. But I’m not sure golf really counts as exercise.

Sure, you get outdoors and walk around but at a leisurely pace. You do burn more calories than just sitting inside, so on some level it is exercise but maybe not intense enough for weight loss.

So, for now I will not add it to my list of fun exercises I will be doing as part of my weight loss plan.

New Year’s Resolution

Fitness Revolution 5 Comments »

My New Year’s resolution is to lose weight and to start exercising. I plan to do that through eating better and a combination of game play and traditional exercise. Wii Fit and Dance Dance Revolution will help burn calories through game play, but I will probably need to get some fitness equipment to take care of the traditional exercise part.

I think a treadmill is a must have as as well as an elliptical. It will probably take a few months to procure both of those items, so my workouts for the first few months of 2008 will mostly be through game play. I’m not complaining since it will mean playing more video games.

Hopefully we can have in place our home gym as soon as possible since it will help to switch up our workouts, which should mean that we won’t get burned out with doing just one thing.

Holiday Fitness

In January, I will start a new diet. This one will hopefully be successful as I’m trying to approach it with a good attitude and incorporate fun exercise into my plan. I decided that it would be crazy to try to diet during December. It seems all I have done is eat, and I will be lucky if I don’t have to pull out my maternity clothes just to have some comfortable pants.

January is fast approaching, so I must begin to prepare now for working out each day. I do plan to walk and to play a lot of Karaoke Revolution in the new year. Hopefully it won’t take long to see progress as that will be the best motivation of all.

Fitness in the New Year

Fitness Revolution No Comments »

I know better than to start a diet in December. There is just too much going on, but January is another story. We plan to start dieting and exercising in the new year.

Part of my fitness goals has always been to incorporate fun into working out. That’s why I like Dance Dance Revolution, even Guitar Hero to an extent, and the new Wii Fit should help to make working out enjoyable.

I’m still looking for other ideas. We love to play badminton and now that we have the room for a net, I will picking up a set sometime soon. I also thought about getting into paintball if I can find an affordable way to get gear for two of us.

Since we have moved, we have a bit more room outside. Even though winter is upon us, there will be days that we should be able to get outside and enjoy the nice weather. It is one of the benefits of living in the south. We usually have a mild winter. Hopefully with a nice mix of fun activities, we will start to exercise regularly.

The Wii Workout

I kind of suspected that when I bought a Wii that I was really buying a piece of exercise equipment. Although it might be a light workout, I do move more playing the Wii than any other console we have.

In Wii Sports, I wind up to throw pitches and use my best bowling stance. Although I can’t play tennis in real life, I know how to swing, so I do my best backhand and other swings when playing tennis. It really does give maybe not an intense workout but is definitely burning more calories than if I just sat on the couch.

With Wii Fit on the horizon and Wii Boogie available now, there will be plenty of ways to get a good workout with the Wii. If I can make working out fun, then I might stick with it.

Diner Dash Workout

I’ve been trying to establish an exercise routine around fun. That’s why I use games like Dance Dance Revolution and Eye Play to help get me moving and having fun. Today I came up with a brilliant gym idea that will probably only appeal to gamers but could be a lot of fun.

My idea is to transform a space about the size of a basketball court into a real-life Diner Dash set up. People would have to race to seat customers, take order, drop off food, and then clean up tables. All of the items would be free weights possibly disguised as those items. So, that way people are nearly sprinting to tables with weights, giving them a better workout. Each round could be timed and then tables moved around to different spots, some obstacles adding to increase the intensity of the workout. Having to balance trays on heads or hold above the head could make for an interesting time since it would help to work more muscles and work on balance.

It would probably take more work to set up the actual course than to run it, but it could potentially be a great way to get a good, fun workout.

Yourself!fitness

Yourself!fitness is a great tool in losing weight the fitness revolution way. It is a video game that gives you a virtual personal trainer and a food diary. With Maya, you can concentrate on aerobic activity, yoga, strength training, etc. Conduct your yoga classes around your schedule. Maya is always waiting for you.

It’s a nice ‘game’ that can help really motivate you to workout since you don’t have to do it alone and from the comfort of your living room. No two workouts are every the same, and you can choose your workout options to your needs. If you are wanting to lose weight, then the workout will be tailored for that or if you are looking to build tone, then that will be taken into account.

Yourself!fitness is a handy tool to have when working out especially if you are a gamer since it combines gaming with exercise.

Losing Weight

One thing I do worry about when I lose the extra weight I have is if my skin will ever look the same. I’ve been thinking that if I do in fact lose all this weight then I will do anything to make sure my body looks as good as possible. Even if I have to visit a cosmetic surgeon in Los Angeles, California, I will do it.

Hopefully it won’t come to that and by losing weight slowly my skin will have a chance to adjust to its new size. It’s hard to have patience when losing weight especially when some weeks the scale doesn’t move. I just have to remember to keep my eye on the big picture: a better, healthier life with my family.
