My Weight Loss Coach

One game for the Nintendo DS that I think will fit in nicely with my fitness revolution plan - that is to lose weight by playing video games - is My Weight Loss Coach.

Apparently you can keep track of your activity with it. It even comes with a pedometer that makes it easy to transport data to the game. I’m not sure if you can keep track of food intake or diet pills supplements with it as I have yet to play it. But it could be a cool portable companion to help keep track of physical activity.

There is also a Yoga game for the DS that could be interesting. It’s just hard to imagine trying to decipher Yoga poses on a 3 inch screen. Still it’s nice to see more fitness-minded games coming on the market for just all platforms.

Wii Fit or No

This week I plan on exercising and trying to get back to dieting. Either I will do it on my own or consider taking something like Phentermine to help me out. I’ve been very tempted to buy Wii Fit but wonder just how much I will use it once the novelty of it wears off. I really want to get something to help me exercise. Playing video games is always fun. I’m just not sure Wii Fit is the right answer.

The reviews have been positive and it does look like a lot of people are talking favorably about it. I’m just worried that within a month I won’t be using it at all.

I might give it a few more months to see if any of the other titles that support the balance board look interesting. We Ski looks fun but then again I’m not sure how long I will play it. I need to find something that I will want to do each week no matter what. That seems like such a tall order right now.

Fun Run

There is a local fun run that will be happening the first weekend in May and I want to take part in it. I don’t run but would like to start since it’s good exercise. Also the runners I know really love it and run look forward to running every day.

That’s what I want. I want to look forward to exercise each day. I’ve begun to look at treadmills just for the simple reason that it gets hot here pretty fast. I don’t know if I begin to run now if I will be wanting to run by the time it gets warmer temperatures. Our spring usually lasts about two weeks. Not a huge window to make anything a habit especially when they say to make something a habit you need to do it for three weeks. Maybe two weeks of spring is an exaggeration but it will be quite warm in a few weeks.

To prepare for the fun run, I have begun to run each day. Right now I’m not going far but hopefully over the next month I can build up my running time. I’m hoping that the little one can ‘run’ with me since she runs everywhere anyway. She is my inspiration anyway for getting healthier, so it’d be nice if she could take part in this first fitness goal.

Dance Outfits

Being the parent of a little girl, I’m looking forward to dance classes, recitals, and other fun events. Right now our only dancing is to Dance Dance Revolution but soon enough it’ll be ballet or some other dancing class.

She’ll need dance clothes for whatever she happens to want to take. Locally the choices are limited but there are plenty of online stores like Just for Kix that have great selection for all types of dance clothing needs.

She might need tutus, leotards, or even costumes. We’ll probably turn to online shopping and Just for Kix to find what we will need when the time comes. They have the names you have come to trust in dance clothing. Their prices are very competitive, so that means I might even save some money. Who knows. I might save enough to pick up me something like a hip skirt for belly dancing. Belly dancing should definitely be a part of my personal fitness revolution since I hear it’s a great workout, and now I know where to get the clothes I need at a great price.

Exercise Ball

After eying them in the store and deciding that even though I can’t afford to give up the space it will take to store one, I bought an exercise ball.

It’s not completely blown up to capacity but enough that it will do. Apparently these babies will stretch like crazy but only so far. I may not get that much use out of it while exercising but I had heard that some people just sit on it to watch TV. Anytime you use it it’s suppose to help your core muscle. I’m not sure what muscles those are but they sound very important.

I figure I can sit on it to play video games if nothing else. That way I get at least some level of a workout in while playing video games. We’ll see how it goes as I have yet to try it for this purpose. It is quite comfortable to sit on, so I think playing video games while sitting on it should be enjoyable.

Yoga Revoution

Added to my list of things that fall under fitness revolution is yoga. I have been wanting to learn yoga for quite a while as I think it would be a great way to relax and meditate. It can be intimating for someone like me who knows absolutely nothing about yoga to get started. Classes seem way over my level of experience. A yoga dvd would be the best way for me to learn yoga since I can do it at my leisure and in the privacy of my own home.

I chose to try Read bodywork’s beginner yoga dvd. It’s called Gentle Practice and features 6 yoga sequences. The sequences are also different lengths, so you can choose the one that best fits your schedule. The best part of the video is that even though it’s a beginner’s yoga dvd it has several different routines on it that you can gradually build up to. So even though it’s for the beginner, I will be able to judge when I’m ready to take it to the next step.

Also the yoga dvd has a pose guide that features 23 yoga poses and over 3 hours of yoga practice. There is a lot of instruction with this dvd that makes it easier for a complete beginner to feel confident in doing yoga. It’s definitely something I hope to make a daily ritual and with this yoga dvd from Real Bodyworks, I think I can succeed with that goal.

Countdown to Wii Fit

Wii Fit will be available in the United States in May. I’m really looking forward to it being released. Between weight loss pills and exercise equipment, I’m not ruling out anything to help me lose weight.

I’ve tried several exercise options like the gym and even video games like Yourself!fitness. My biggest problem with exercise is making it a routine. Hopefully with Wii Fit it will become second nature. I think the innovation of the game with the Wii board will make it something I will want to use daily. Or at least I’m hoping so.

Wii Fit is due out the first of May.

To Lose Weight

Losing weight is hard. It’s easy to get pumped up about dieting but it never lasts. The euphoria I had for dieting in January is gone. Having been sick for a few weeks in February just drained me of all my energy. Now I’m trying to get back on the dieting train.

So far I’ve strayed away from trying Alli or drinking Slim-Fast shakes, but it is so tempting to do something out of the norm to jump start my weight loss. Hopefully with warmer temperatures I will be motivated to exercise more like walking.

I really need to sit down and think of some goals to work towards when it comes to weight loss and fitness. I need something to keep me on track. It’s hard when you fall off the wagon to get back on. I definitely need to add some goals to help keep me going.

One Month of Fitness Revolution Almost Done

Fitness Revolution 2 Comments »

This month I began my personal Fitness Revolution, a vow to change the way I eat and exercise for good. So far, one side of the equation is going well while I have faltered with the other.

I have changed my eating habits and have lost 8 pounds this month. I haven’t done much in the way of exercising, so I’m going to call that phase 2 and hopefully start that in full force in February.

I haven’t used anything like ephedra diet pills to lose the weight. I’ve been counting calories and try to hit the 1200-1700 calorie mark every day. Some days I might go slightly over but try not to sweat it too much and just tighten up the next day.

It’s working well as I haven’t felt that hungry in between planned meals and snacks. Usually when I restrict calories all I want to do is eat.

So, it’s time to dust off that DDR mat and get some exercising done. I can’t wait for Wii Fit to come to the U.S. since that will offer even more video game workout possibilities.

Gaming Time

So, in the new year I hope to drop a few pounds through playing video games like Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, etc. The idea is to be more active while playing and to actually burn a few calories. That means standing up and playing games, so playing games in the recliner will be a no no.

I will need to look up some information on how many calories are burned when at rest, asleep, and exercise. DDR will keep track of how many calories you are burning, so for less active games I will burn less calories. Hopefully I can guesstimate an amount that will be conservative but close to the actual calories that will be burned.

Before the new year gets here, it’s just another thing I need to do to make sure we get off on the right track with our weight loss plan.
