What I’ve learned from Scrabble

Casual Games No Comments »

Playing electronic versions of Scrabble has been a great way to increase my skill at this word game. I’m not wild about word games since I like to keep things simple, so fancy words allude me. If I place a five letter word, I’m thrilled.

I’ve learned some crazy words since I started to play Scrabble. Did you know that Za means Pizza? That’s the cool thing about an electronic version is that it shows the definition of these crazy words. Somethings I completely guess words just by trying every combination that makes sense with my draw of letters.

So if you haven’t played Scrabble in a while or want to learn, pick up an electronic version of the game either for the PC or console. It would really help you gain some Scrabble skills.

Caribbean Hideaway

Casual Games 1 Comment »

Now here’s a game that appeals to me solely for its title. Maybe it’s because Caribbean Hideaway sounds more like one of those luxury vacations destinations that I’m always Googling.

It’s a match three game that has a tropical back story. Sail the high seas and recruit people to join you. So maybe it’s more of a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ adventure than sunning on a tropical beach one. Either way, it’s hard to deny that these match three games are fun no matter what the premise. Still, one with a tropical theme is great for gloomy, stormy days when all I want to think about is some warm beach with a tall glass of iced cola.

Caribbean Hideaway is available at Big Fish Games or visit Romperz Games(link at top of page) to find it and more great casual games.

Count of Monte Cristo

The Count of Monte Cristo is a hidden object game and retells the story based on Alexander Dumas’ book of the same name. You might have had to read this in high school or you might have caught a movie adapted from the book. It is a great story and is interesting to see it unfold in this hidden object game.

A lot of hidden object games have a story behind them like Mystery Case Files series but The Count of Monte Cristo is a game based on a familiar story. The story immediately begins with play. Then you have your first screen. Once you’ve completed it, more story is told and then it’s time to put together a puzzle. And so forth and so forth.

If you enjoy the hidden object games that involve a story, the check out The Count of Monte Cristo.

Magic Seeds

Magic Seeds is a casual game where you help Jane grow her small business. Her resources might be limited, so she will need to get the best performance management from her seeds. You can plant seeds, take care of them, and even cross breed to make new ones.

Magic Seeds looks like it could be fun to try. I always enjoy this type of sim game like Flower Shop. Not only can you grow plants but you can build your own home. It’s available through Big Fish Games. The file is less than 13 MB, so it shouldn’t take too long to download(if you have high speed). This will be one to check out when I’m feeling better and actually want to play games.

The Office

Fans of the TV Show ‘The Office?’ Well, did you know that there is a casual game about the NBC hit show? I didn’t either until I accidentally stumbled upon it at Alawar.com. I can’t say I’m a fan of The Office since I have seen only a few episodes. I do like that they are just as much into the employee’s personal lives as they are into corporate performance management or cpm.

The Office game features caricatures of cast favorites and seasonal variations of the Scranton office. Play pranks on your rivals, help co-workers, and keep focused on your job. After all, you’re competing to be the year’s top Dunder Mifflin paper salesperson.

From the looks of it, The office casual game looks to bring the heart of TV show to a video game.

Wedding Dash

Wedding Dash is a game that is inspired by Diner Dash. This time you help Flo’s cousin Quinn pull off successful weddings. This was a fun game that I had played the demo for and like other things, quickly forgot about. Since I have so much fun playing Diner Dash, it might be the right time to pick up the full version of Wedding Dash.

Quinn consults with each couple and then chooses a lot of aspects of the wedding like flowers, food, and honeymoon destination. She doesn’t have to worry with smaller details like wedding rings but does have to keep the guests happy. That means seating guests who get along well together. Should a disturbance interrupt the festivities, Quinn must quickly diffuse any hostile situation.

The pace is pretty much like Diner Dash. You control the waitress during the reception to deliver food and then control Quinn when guests aren’t happy. I enjoyed the demo and can’t believe I never got the full version. Looks like my search for this month’s game is over before it started.

Koko Arena Review

Koko Arena is by far one of my favorite all-time casual games. It has been out for years but is a lot of fun. It’s basically a volleyball game that two people can play. Fun power ups and cute characters has given me a lasting impression of this game.

koko.jpg

Choose from one of 16 Kokos to play. Each Koko hails from a different country. You can also choose how you will control your Koko, either with the mouse or keyboard. Next pick from seven arenas to play volleyball. You can either play quick mode or Koko cup(career mode).

The power ups are what make this game fun and interesting. There is one power up that turns off the lights or there is one that makes the volleyball really heavy and harder to put across the net. Oil spill will have your Koko slipping and sliding across the court.

Koko Arena is a fun to play especially with another person. It’s an older game but is still very enjoyable today.

New Big Fish Credit

It’s a new month so I have yet another Big Fish game credit. It seems it takes me a month to find a game that actually intrigues me longer than the hour demo.

I may try to find a good hidden object game. I really liked Hidden Expedition Everest and wouldn’t mind finding another one set in a location. I wouldn’t even mind another one set in the United States since I did enjoy Big City Adventures: San Francisco. Maybe they could do one with the other coast and the Outer Banks area of North Carolina. Now that would be some beautiful scenery.

I haven’t played that much of the time management games I have gotten lately. Maybe I should just try a new genre all together with this credit.

Dream Day Honeymoon

Dream Day Honeymoon is a hidden object casual game. It is the second game in a series of romantic hidden object series that began with Dream Day Wedding.

In Dream Day Honeymoon, Jenny and Robert are in search of the perfect souvenir. Will a watch like s Rolex Datejust win out or how about something more tourist-driven like a refrigerator magnet?

19 unique backgrounds, 30 levels, and packed with mini-games make Dream Day Honeymoon one casual game worth a look.

Home Sweet Home

My favorite part of playing The Sims is decorating the houses. Sometimes I create homes on lots but never play them. I just like the creation process. Now that I’ve found the casual game Home Sweet Home, I can decorate to my heart’s content.

In Home Sweet Home, you decorate people’s homes. First you listen to what they want and then you decorate. The next phase is to build the furnishings under budget and on time. This can be tricky since your crew’s progress will be slowed by injury or when they need a tool. You handle both these tasks. You also give them coffee when their energy is low.

Home Sweet Home is a perfect game for those who love to decorate and like just a small amount of simulation type tasks.
