Combo King

Board Games, Card Games No Comments »

Roll up some fun and be the first to get rid of your hand to win the game of Combo King. This card game combines poker with Yahtzee.

Cards will have a combo that the player must roll. Detailed on the card will be how many rolls he gets to accomplish it. Also listed on the card is if he can keep any dice rolls and how many dice he can roll. Some cards are just for one player while other cards are challenges for all players.

If a person is successful in their combo roll, then he earns the number of poker chips indicated on the card. He discards that card and is that much closer to winning the game. A player wins when they have no more cards to play.

Poker chips can be used to buy another dice roll, make a player draw a card and many other game altering actions. Combo King can be played in about 20 minutes. Rules are included to make the game longer. Players can also incorporate their own house rules like making the hand size bigger or any other actions to make the game as fun as possible for their group.

Combo King is very entertaining and fun. It takes about 5 minutes to learn to play and teach to others. If someone likes Yahtzee, the Combo King is definitely an enjoyable game.

The Game of Poker

Poker is my favorite card game. I’m always up for a game of poker. Lately my favorite variant of poker has been Texas Hold Em. It’s really popular right now with many TV shows featuring professional as well as celebrity players playing this high stakes game.

One poker site that is a fine resource of news, articles, photos, and everything else related to poker is Poker Junkie. What I like about Poker Junkie is its clean design and easy navigation. It is very easy to find usual information at Poker Junkie. Their archive of of World Series of Poker articles are insightful and give a history of the WSOP that might take much longer to piece together with just doing online research.

For those who love the game of poker or just want to learn more about the card game, Poker Junkie offers something of value.

Thinking about all the time you are going to spend with family and friends in the next few weeks? Looking for some games that are easy and fast to play? You should check out Gamewright. Gamewright has a selection of card games that are fun and can be played in less than 12 minutes. Most of the games are for kids 6 and up, so this way those younger cousins won’t be left out.

The rules to the games are simple and easily understood. You can teach someone to play any of the 12 minute games in less than 5 minutes. While waiting for everyone to gather and to keep the kids from opening the gifts, we always try to have some activity for them to do to keep their minds off the presents. Simple, fast card games do a good job because they are not playng a game for very long, so they don’t lose interest. Also that way once everyone arrives, a game can be wrapped up pretty quickly.

Playing Poker

Standard poker play can be very easy to learn. The real skill with playing poker is knowing when to stay in a hand and when to fold. There are many poker variations. One of the most popular today is Texas Hold Em. In Texas Hold Em, players share community cards to make up their poker hands along with the player’s two hole cards that are dealt face down. Poker forums can really help new players get answers to their questions about the game.

Before playing poker, become familiar with all of the poker hands and their order of importance. If you have a pair of Kings, there are many poker hand that will trump that. Here is a rundown of the poker hands in order of value:

High Card–If no player has anything, the person with the highest valued card wins.
A Pair-two cards of the same rank. Two kings, Two eights, etc.
2 pair–two pairs of cards–Two kings and two eights in the same hand.
Straight–A run of cards that are in sequential order. For example, 5-6-7-8-9. Suit of the cards does not matter.
Flush–five cards that are of the same suit and do not have to be in a certain order.
Full House–two of a kind and three of a kind
4 of a Kind–four cards all of the same rank.
Straight-Flush–five cards that are both in sequential order and are of the same suit.
Royal Flush–Ten, Jack, Queen, King, Ace–all in the same suit.

A good, solid understanding of the basics of poker will help you develop a winning poker strategy. There are plenty of video games for all consoles and the PC that can help you understand poker better. Poker Superstars II is one of my favorites; however, there are plenty of other game titles to choose from on the market.

Favorite card game: Spoons

Here are Romperz we are very excited to add the categories card games and board games. Many casual gamers not only love their video games, but these longtime favorites as well.

My current favorite card game is Spoons. It is a great party game. You can play with a regular deck of cards and spoons or get a special card set.

Spoons is a lot of fun. Basically you play until someone has four cards of the same type. Players pass a card to the player on the left. The first player draws from the deck then can either pass that card or one in his hand. The first person to have four of a kind grabs a spoon. Once the first spoon is grabbed, it’s a free for all for the other spoons. There is one less spoon than players, so be fast or be eliminated!

It’s fast and fun. All you need is some spoons and a couple of deck of cards.
