Samba de Amigo

Posted on Oct 29, 2008 under Reviews | No Comment

My new favorite Wii game is the classic game Samba de Amigo. I really hate the Sega Dreamcast wasn’t more supported than it was because there were some great games put out for the system. Samba de Amigo is a great example of one of those games.

I rented it through GameFly and then had to buy it since it was so much fun. The controls could use a little tweaking as at first I thought it was just me that was missing some easy points. But when my husband encountered the same problem.

Other than that, the game is great. I know controller issues usually make a game more frustrating than fun. But it’s hard to not enjoy this game with its upbeat music and colorful display.

Big Fish Reward

I’ve been a member of the Big Fish Game Club for a little over a year. Each month I purchase a game credit for $6.99. This has been a great deal for us as we’ve all gotten games we like. Right now I’m sitting on 5 game credits since I’ve hit a lull in playing casual games. It happens sometimes. But I’m sure my game playing will increase and when it does, I’ll have plenty of credits to go around.

A few weeks ago I received an email about a reward for being a member for a year. Soon I’ll receive an exclusive plushie - which I’m sure my three-year-old will claim right away. Still it’s nice to be rewarded with such a cute item.

New Baby

Here is our new baby -

We have talked about getting a new television for a while and finally we got one. It’s a Vizio and was on sale at Wal-Mart. Now we are watching TV a lot better and playing video games more enjoyably. But the fun is not going to end there as we are getting DirecTV. It’s been a while since we had channel choices, so TV viewing will be a new experience and quite possibly overload at the beginning.

When I was signing up, I noticed a game channel that was around $6/month. I was tempted but need to check into it further. I haven’t used any Big Fish credits in months, so maybe it’s time to switch to this channel for casual game entertainment. I will need to investigate it further to learn more about it but does sound promising.

The Princess Bride

One of my all-time favorite movies is ‘The Princess Bride,’ so when I saw that there was a casual game of the same name, I knew I had to give it a try. I eagerly downloaded the demo and then proceeded to forget about it totally for at least a week. I recently remembered the gem that I had downloaded and gave it a try.

The game is broken down into five parts - each is a different type of casual game and scene from the movie. Some are more entertaining than others. There’s time management, trivia, and other casual game genres to test your skills.

I’m almost through with my hour demo and now have to decide if it’s worth buying. Casual games are fun at first but as a casual gamer usually lose their appeal shortly thereafter. I guess I’m really judging this game on the time management part where you play Wesley the farm boy and have to do tasks around the farm. During your time you also much complete a task for Buttercup. The first few levels start off super easy but then become increasingly difficult. I usually like time management games but this one just doesn’t really do anything for me.

So, while I do love the movie, the casual game just isn’t one that I find myself enjoying that much. That’s the great thing about casual games is that you can try before you buy. Maybe your experience will be better than mine.
