Bargains

Way Off Topic No Comments »

I not only like game bargains but grocery bargains, too. The prices just seem to go up each week at the local grocer. That’s one reason I’ve started using grocery coupons that can help me to save some money.

The Penny Pincher Gazette is a free resource for finding and printing grocery coupons. I usually check the weekly grocery fliers for deals and specials. But having a one-stop website to find those deals cuts down time, especially since you can print coupons that you need.

Not only can you find the weekly circulars but recipes and articles. The recipes featured also have a coupon for one of the ingredients. That makes finding something to cook that much more affordable.

If it’s not a game bargain, then at least let it be a grocery bargain. There are plenty of those to find at the Penny Pincher Gazette.

A New Game for Hubby

Game Talk No Comments »

My husband is a Civilization III fiend. He loves this game and plays it every day. He seems to play to unwind, so today, after I’ve made fun of him for weeks for playing this older game, decided to go buy a new game.

He didn’t find any he wanted. I told him to check out Big Fish Games since I have two credits. There might be something that he will find interesting. Most casual games that he plays do not carry the replay value that his Civ III does. It’s amazing how many times he can play through this game.

Hopefully if he doesn’t find anything at Big Fish he can take a second look at the PC games at the gaming store.

Bella Sara

Bella Sara is a collectible card game that is geared toward young girls. Bella Sara features horses. You can take the codes from the cards and enter them in the Bella Sara website, creating your own virtual horse.

From there you can brush her hair or take her out of the stable. You won’t need any equestrian clothing to enjoy having a horse. Bella Sara reinforces positive ideas, so it helps to boost self-esteem of young girls. So, unlike a lot of card games, this one has a different goal. It’s not about game play but the positive message behind each card.

The latest expansion is Native Lights that is available in some stores like Target.

Portable Gaming

The best thing about my Nintendo DS is that I can play it anywhere. I love to play a few minutes before bed each night. Some people read. Some people game.

My pillows aren’t good to prop up in bed but something like a sleep wedge would work perfect. It would give me the support and prop I needed to play comfortably in bed.

While some may find playing games an odd way to wind down from a full day, it really helps to just put the cares of the day away. I usually play about 10-15 minutes until I am ready to call it a night.

My DS really needs another screen protector. I’ve bought one but can’t get the other one off. Maybe I can find some tips on how to get that screen off.

Portable gaming is great. My DS has been one of my favorite gaming purchases. I almost play it daily, so it’s been worth every penny.

Games with Broad Appeal

Wouldn’t it be great if games could be like the product lipovox and offer something for everyone? Like a strategic gamer could enjoy the same games as a sim gamer.

This would definitely give gamers something in common. Imagine having a game in common with someone who loved World of Warcraft? Some games do cross game genres but I really wish more did.

The number of causal MMO games is on the rise. Who knows. Soon gamers that once were all about strategy games might find enjoyment and value with casual games that are ‘on their turf.’

Relay for Life

News 1 Comment »

Our local Relay for Life event is coming up in a few weeks, and our team captain is trying to quit smoking. You’re surprised he’s a smoker? Well, I was when I first found out. He’s doesn’t look like a smoker. In fact he barely looks old enough to be of legal age.

Relay for Life is a yearly event that raises money for cancer research. It is ironic that our team captain places himself at risk of developing lung cancer by smoking. Hopefully he can find the will-power to quit for good. Of course, it could be just as easy to be at risk for lung cancer as any other cancer like mesothelioma. We do work in an older building. There’s no telling what we’re exposed to.

I’m looking forward to taking part in Relay for Life. This is my first time to walk and probably won’t stay all night but hope to make it at least past 11pm.

The Excitement is Building!

It is mid-April and we are a few weeks away from the release of some much-anticipated titles.

Mario Kart is due out April 29 while Wii Fit will be available in early May. Also WiiWare launches in early May as well. It’s exciting that these titles that I have been waiting on are so close to being released. It also makes me realize that I need to save my money to buy it all. Of course soon we will have our economic stimulus money. What better way to stimulate the economy than spend the money on video games.

I bought Mario Kart 64 for the virtual console since I was really anxious to play Mario Kart again. It’s fun but will be wonderful to play the Wii version.

An exciting few months are coming for casual gamers.

Cell Service

While there is a lot that we can do on our phones like take pictures or play games, sometimes it’s actually nice to use it to make a phone call. Well, for us sometimes it’s not so easy to use our cell phones for that purpose. Why? Because our signal is not very strong at our house. In fact, sometimes it takes a few minutes of walking around to find a strong signal.

I’ve been wanting to try a mobile cell phone booster to see if it would actually help signal strength. When I received on for review from Powerful Signal, I was really excited. I was even more thrilled with how this product works. Installation was very easy. I don’t like to read instructions to play games much less to install electronic equipment. Within a few minutes, I had it set up and was already getting a stronger cell phone signal.

It has been so great to have reliable service in our home again. We love living in the country but no cell service makes me miss the city. Now I don’t have to miss the city life as we can add one more convenience to our list. Now to just get cable TV, and we’ll be set.

What I’ve learned from Scrabble

Casual Games No Comments »

Playing electronic versions of Scrabble has been a great way to increase my skill at this word game. I’m not wild about word games since I like to keep things simple, so fancy words allude me. If I place a five letter word, I’m thrilled.

I’ve learned some crazy words since I started to play Scrabble. Did you know that Za means Pizza? That’s the cool thing about an electronic version is that it shows the definition of these crazy words. Somethings I completely guess words just by trying every combination that makes sense with my draw of letters.

So if you haven’t played Scrabble in a while or want to learn, pick up an electronic version of the game either for the PC or console. It would really help you gain some Scrabble skills.

The Gaming Briefcase

Game Talk 1 Comment »

I bought Joe a briefcase to use to gaming. It was sort of a joke since Brian, from the Knights of the Dinner Table comic book, has a briefcase that he keeps his character sheet, snacks, and other important stuff in. He guards it with his life. It’s quite funny to read in the comics.

When I showed the briefcase to him, he loved the idea. Now mind you it’s not as nice as a Zero Halliburton but is still quite fetching. It has a place for the RPG books, pens, loose papers, minis, and other gaming supplies.

Using a briefcase makes organization a lot easier than using a backpack. There are just more slots in a briefcase to tuck away items than in a backpack. Also you can really weigh down a backpack by loading RPG books you really don’t need for a gaming session or taking every dice you own. A briefcase forces you to make the hard decision about what you really need for the current game.

So, although it started out as a joke, the gaming briefcase has become quite the hit.
