New Game for the Laptop

Game Talk 3 Comments »

My next casual game I want to install on my laptop. There are some casual games that are better to play on the laptop than others.

Hidden object games don’t do so well for me. I think it’s something with the screen. Any game that uses the mouse extensively isn’t very fun either since I use the touchpad and not a mouse with the laptop.

It sort of knocks out a lot of choices when you take into account those two factors. I’m sure with Big Fish I can find a game to suit the bill. I do plan on getting a kids casual game with my other credit but that will go on my PC.

Sims City Carnival Bumper Blast is looking like a good choice. There is just something about it that reminds me of Peggle. I’ll have to download the demo and try it out for myself.

Finally!

After weeks of searching, I have finally found Game Party for the Wii. It’s only a $20 game and features seven mini-games but must be extremely popular.

This game came out in November and since then I’ve been checking locally to find it. I finally spotted one copy at Best Buy tonight and quickly snatched it up. I had just checked Best Buy online today to see if it was in the store. Apparently it wasn’t. But a few hours later I found it in the store. I was almost ready to write Best Buy off as never having anything new for the Wii.

I can’t wait to play. It’s a little late to fire it up tonight as the little one believe she has the same bedtime as us. Well, maybe a few short games won’t hurt anyone.

Have you seen these webisode videos featuring Kettering University’s Stickman? They are a funny and really a great way to showcase the university to potential students.

Kettering University is in Michigan and is known for it’s engineering, math, science, and business programs. In fact, it’s listed in US News Best Colleges and is ranked number one university in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.

Stickman is the star of their web comic that is a light-hearted way to introduce students to the university and what is has to offer. This is my favorite episode where Stickman answers fan mail. The videos are actually full of useful information about applying to college and paying for it.

Kettering may be best know for its mechanical engineering program but does offer other degree programs. They also have a co-op program where students actually work for an employer for a semester and then go to school for a semester. Co-ops are great since they can provide much needed money for college as well as valuable work experience. Everyone I knew in college who did a co-op went on to work for that company after college.

If a university has their own web comic must be one that is worth a closer look. My college days are behind me or I would be interested in attending a place that has a sense of humor and is nationally recognized for its programs.

Donkey Kong Barrel Blast

One fun game for the Wii is Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. You take on other DK characters to try to win one of several racing cups. Each cup you win opens up more racing options and, sometimes, racers.

Each racing cup consists of a set number of tracks. You don’t have to finish each race first. You just have to win the cup, which means finishing first at least once or twice. You will also be graded on your performance. Scoring good grades will also open up additional parts of the game.

You start the game with a choice of many racers to choose from. Each one is graded in three categories: agility, speed, and boost. Along the track, you will pick up bananas. When you have 50, you gain a boost, which will rocket your racer forward. There are also objects to collect to help you along the way that include items to throw at your competition or extra bananas.

Barrel Blast is a blast to play. While it’s no Mario Kart, which isn’t due out for another two months for the Wii, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast is a very entertaining racing game.
