Rock Band for my Birthday

Game Talk 1 Comment »

So, I still have birthday money to spend and I’ve been holding off on Rock Band to buy it when we get a 360. The problem is that might be at least 3 more months. Instead of waiting any longer, I’m taking my birthday money and buying it for the PS2.

I’m going to buy the game and the drum set as I don’t really need another guitar or microphone. Even though I won’t have access to downloadable content, I don’t care. We can always pick it up for the 360 if it is something we really want to do later.

But, quite frankly, after the announcement of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, I wonder if downloadable content will be that much supported in the future of it Harmonix will follow suit and save it for a sequel or encore edition.

I’m excited but still uncertain if this is what I really want to do. I may check into the content available for the 360 version and make a decision if it is worth the wait.

Me, Too!

I had bought Raegan a PS2 game called Toy Pals Fun with Numbers. It’s a game from Konami, the folks with brought us Dance Dance Revolution. The game is for 2-5 year olds and I thought it might be something she would enjoy.

So, I finally decided to plug it in today to give it a ‘test run’ to see if it is something she would like. After putting in the game, I had to drag out the DDR mat since it used one. After that I got to one of the games, jump rope, and began ‘testing’ it.

Raegan was so cute and wanted her turn. She kept saying “me too, me too.” She’s so adorable. So, I encouraged her to stand on the mat and tried to explain the game of jump rope. She hasn’t quite mastered jumping yet.

After struggling with jump roping for a few rounds, I thought it was probably best if next time i just didn’t skip over the instructions even if it is a game for pre-schoolers.

There are other games with it that we will have to check out later once I have completely read all the instructions.

T-shirt Collection

My husband and I love funny t-shirts. I got him one for Christmas that he really doesn’t care for. It’s a stick figure playing video games with the caption “non employee of the month.” I like it for the stick figure playing video games. Joe reads something different in it than I do.

He reads it was the guy is unemployed, so he is the non employee of the month. I think of it as the guy is employed but a slacker. Either way Joe doesn’t want to wear it to work in case it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I think he is thinking way too much about it.

I bought it because he is sort of a slacker and he loves video games. I guess I should start wearing it since I seem to be the only one who likes it.

Stock Market Game

Anyone every play this fantasy-type game in high school? One of my favorite teachers from high school died this week and it was in his class we played the stock market game. He was one of those teachers that truly prepared you for the ‘real world.’

The stock market game was more of a fantasy-type league where you bought stocks and then followed them to see how your pretend investment did. It was a great lesson in learning about the stock market. I always liked those class activities where you learned more about real world applications like the stock market or buying a house. We learned a lot in economics class from the stock market to mortgage lenders. There was always something that we were learning that we would use later.

Today it would be much easier to play the stock market game with the resource of the Internet. There is something about researching through the newspaper that was fun. It was definitely more work but a lot of fun at the same time.

Magic Seeds

Magic Seeds is a casual game where you help Jane grow her small business. Her resources might be limited, so she will need to get the best performance management from her seeds. You can plant seeds, take care of them, and even cross breed to make new ones.

Magic Seeds looks like it could be fun to try. I always enjoy this type of sim game like Flower Shop. Not only can you grow plants but you can build your own home. It’s available through Big Fish Games. The file is less than 13 MB, so it shouldn’t take too long to download(if you have high speed). This will be one to check out when I’m feeling better and actually want to play games.

GDC

I normally don’t report gaming news but just try to stick to casual games. Events like the Gamer Developers Conference makes me sad I don’t as the news out of the GDC has been very pleasing.

From the news, it looks it will be a while before we are due any colon cleanser games or if you prefer, games that aren’t worth playing. We finally have a release date for WiiFit in the US. Look for it and the balance board to be packaged together and available May 19. WiiWare will be launching May 12 and allow Wii owners to spend their Wii points on new games that are made for the Wii.

Ok, so maybe I’m more impressed with the Wii news from the conference. These are two things that I’ve been looking forward to, so it’s good to finally have a date instead of not knowing when it will be available.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Apparently Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is coming out later this year. While I love Guitar Hero, I will have to pass on this one. Why? Well, I’m not shelling over another $50 for a game that probably should be downloadable content.

I just have a feeling it will be more like Encore 80’s edition that was fun but not worth full price. Aerosmith has some great songs and definitely belong in Guitar Hero but just not sure the game will be that much different to be worth the tag price it will surely have.

Buy.com - my new electronics store

Way Off Topic 1 Comment »

There are a few things I have missed since we moved to a smaller town. For one, there isn’t an electronics store where we live now. This is quite depressing since I love to browse all of the latest consumer electronics. Good thing there is the Internet and Buy.com. One of the reasons why buy.com rocks is all of the consumer electronics. It has definitely helped me miss those big electronic stores to have a one stop Internet store to browse and find everything I love to drool over.

Buy.com offers competitive prices, free shipping on select items, and deals of the week. Another good reason why buy.com rocks is the ability to create a wishlist. This way you can send it to those who want to buy you something or use it like I do, as a reminder of the items that you really want to purchase within the next few months.

Besides consumer electronics, Buy.com has jewelry, home, and even toys. So, not only can I find some great electronics but can also find power tools, a nice bracelet, and even a board game or toy for the little girl.

I think Buy.com rocks so much that I put together a little video. Hope you enjoy it.
