Cabinets and Toddlers

Way Off Topic No Comments »

It’s a job to keep Rae out of the cabinets. Our new place we have to buy new cabinet hardware since most of it was missing. Wouldn’t you know that the cabinet pulls are too far apart to work with child safety locks? So I guess it’s back to the store to look for another way to keep her out of the cabinets.

Rae seems to enjoy opening and closing cabinets more than pulling stuff out of them. Well at least right now she just enjoys it. Who knows next week or next month what she will be into. We need something to keep her out of the cabinets where we keep the games and DVDs. She loves to rearrange our not-so-ordered stacks. Our current cabinet lock system is child proof but is almost adult proof as it can be quite challenging to open. Maybe I will find a better solution soon and hopefully before she learns she can pull stuff out of cabinets quite easily.

Alice in Wonderland

Rae has a new favorite movie. Well really I guess it’s her first favorite movie. We watch Alice every day, sometimes twice. I had thought about pulling out American McGee’s Alice but I don’t think she will find it as endearing as the movie.

Right now that’s the only thing I have related to Alice in Wonderland. I’m looking for books, games, or anything else related that might satisfy her so we don’t have to watch the movie twice a day.

I’m sure as soon as I find something that she will have moved on to another movie. Figures.

The Most of Our Living Space

Way Off Topic No Comments »

Since we have downgraded in living space, we need to make the most of the space we have. Since we are big gamers, we have been looking at poker tables in lieu of a tradition kitchen table. Since we mainly eat while sitting on the couch, the table gets seldom used at dinner time.

It mainly gets used when we play games, so why not have a table that meets more of our gaming needs instead? It seems like a good idea to us anyway. Playing board and card games are two of our favorite activities. Having a multi-purpose table just makes good sense especially since we have limited space.

One we choose a table, it will be time to have a game night in our new place. That should be a lot of fun.

Finishing a Degree

My husband will be finishing his degree next year. He only lacks one or two classes. I’m kind of excited to have him finally finish. The whole school saga is long and drawn-out. Basically we thought he had his degree but it was a computer glitch. Then after being frustrated, disappointed, and not finding a job anyway had given up getting it altogether.

Now it matters again as he can make more money with his job. It’s going to be expensive, though. Luckily we won’t have to buy graduation announcements since he has already technically graduated but we will have to pay for classes. This added expense is really going to make for a tight budget especially since we want two of the three next gen consoles by Christmas.

Joe really wants Halo 3 and I really want a Wii. I think we will get the Wii first since he really needs to study anyway for his class. I’m not sure that logic will go over that well with him, though. If we get both and save for college, it will mean a tight budget. We might can make it if we plan. Since we are horrible planners, we will probably wind up getting neither console until after he officially graduates and gets a pay increase at his job.

GameCube at McDonald’s

While at McDonald’s the other day, I couldn’t help but to notice a kiosk of GameCube games. Curious I had to check it out.

They had Mario Kart, a snow boarding game, and something else, all were equipped to handle two players. This is the first time I had seen such a thing at McDonald’s.

It was kind of neat to see video games inside a fast food place that were free to play. I can see that McDonald’s becoming a favorite spot of ours especially as Rae gets older since she already enjoys some video games.
