Planning a Wedding

Way Off Topic No Comments »

Thinking back to my friend Kim’s wedding led me to thinking about my own wedding. Planning a wedding can be stressful. I don’t think I have ever felt stress that way I did while planning our wedding. There are so many little details to take care of and finding all these nice, little touches can lead you all over town with no results.

I got married before the Internet was so popular. Now you can find everything you need online and at great prices. Wedding favors were especially hard to pinpoint. ShopForWeddings.com is a great online resource to find a variety as well as cheap wedding favors. Many items on the site you can get personalized for free. I wish that wedding resources like Shop for Weddings was around when I got married. It would have meant less stress and worry for me that’s for sure.

Portable Entertainment Center

While shopping at Wal-Mart, I noticed in the portable DVD section was one that included a game controller. The game controller contains 25 games that you can play on the DVD player. The game controller is wireless and looks pretty nice.

I’ve been thinking that investing in a portable DVD player for the vehicle wouldn’t be a bad idea. Right now the little one doesn’t watch much TV, but I know that will change as her attention span hopefully gets longer. It’s nice to see game controllers are now being shipped with some DVD models because I’m sure the little one will love to play games. It’s genetics afterall.

It’s just another inevitable piece of electronics we’ll have to purchase. We really love technology so we’re not complaining.

Optic Gadgets

It’s nights like tonight that make me wish we had a telescope. The air is crisp and clean with a clear, beautiful night sky. It’s a perfect night for star gazing. My husband has often mentioned how he would like a telescope for a Christmas or a birthday present. If the weather keeps being so nice then this might be the year he finally gets his wish. I had one for my Sims family. The Sims daughter was abducted one night by aliens. After that all she ever wanted to talk about was her abduction. It’s a drawback to being abducted in the Sims is that it becomes your Sims favorite topic of conversation.

While thumbing through some telescope websites, I came across a site that also sells radar detectors. I love gadgets, but this is one gadget that I have never really wanted or needed. A radar detector is a great for those who drive a little fast. I have an aunt who has a “lead foot.” She makes a 10 hour trip in about 8. She should have a bunch of radar detectors.

The spyglass telescope on OpticSale.com is very cool. We are pirate-crazy around here, and this would make a great gift. I may have to order two so I can keep one.

The BIG Toy Book

Toys R Us has now available their big Toy Book. I can’t wait to thumb through it. I feel like a kid again since the birth of our daughter. There are so many toys I want her to have because I can’t wait to play with them.

I have begun organizing my Christmas list and checking it twice. St. Nicholas isn’t the only one with a list. I have many folks to buy for and just a few short weeks until the Christmas rush. I’m thinking instead of running around in holiday traffic to do more shopping online. Christmas gifts for just about everyone one my list can be found online. I’ll be picking up a lot of board and video games to give out this year.

I also have my husband’s boss and other people on my list that I’m not sure what exactly to give them. A gourmet gift basket might be just the thing as food items are always a nice treat. Also the presentation of the baskets is divine. The gift basket should make a good impression.

I think for right now I will stick to buying for the kids on my list and thumbing through the Big Toy Book. I might just find a few things to tell Santa that I want this year.

Vintage Game Vault: Crazy Taxi

Crazy Taxi is a fun game. I was reminded of it because you can play the arcade version at Wal-Mart. It’s not as cool as the one that use to be at the arcade because you can’t sit down behind the wheel.

We had Crazy Taxi for the GameCube and was so much fun to play. It’s a game, though, I can only play for about 30 minutes. The fairs and the people in the game really bother me after that. If I have had a stressful day, then this wasn’t the game to relax with because it would only make me more anxious.

We have Crazy Taxi 2 for the Dreamcast which is a good romp every once in a while. I am so use to the cityscape of the first Crazy Taxi that it is a little frustrating to play the sequel. I like to play it every now and then as it is a good trip down memory lane.

Riding in Style

All this talk lately about weddings has me thinking about my friend Kim’s wedding. I was a bridesmaid and was thrilled to be in her wedding. It was a lot of fun and a lot of work.

The whole wedding party took a limousine from the hotel to the church. It was so nice to have those few minutes to reflect and relax right before the wedding. The limousine was Jeep and was very nice. It was my first time to ride in a limousine.

The limousines in Newport Beach are some really nice limousines. Check out the interior of some of these rides to view some fantastic amenities.

Maybe one day I will get to ride in another limousine. Until then I’ll just have to be content to admire them from afar.

What was old is now new again

I’ve just read about PaRappa the Rapper coming to the PSP. This PSOne title was one of my favorite games. To hear it is coming to the PSP makes me want to play it. There is a part of me that feels a little cheated since it is a straight port of the PSOne game. While I loved PaRappa, I have played it thousands of times. If there is nothing new to the PSP version then why bother?

PaRappa isn’t the only port game out there. To an extent, I feel the same way about most port games. Some port games I haven’t played at all, so it’s brand new to me. I bought Conker Live and Reloaded that includes the port of Conker’s Bad Fur Day. It is a little different, though. Also, Conker Live and Reloaded isn’t just Bad Fur Day but a new Conker adventure.

With the next gen consoles here, I wonder how many new games for them will be games that we have seen before? With their hefty price tags, they need to bring something new to the table to make me buy it.

Marketing on the web

Way Off Topic No Comments »

Although I have been on the Internet for many years, I’m so behind on catching up on the latest trends. What is sad is that I use to blame the rural area we lived in for not knowing trends but with the Internet this is not a valid excuse.

RSS, keyword, and SEO are all fairly new terms to me. It’s exciting to learn about all the different avenues and tools you can use to develop your website.

Apogee Search Engine Marketing is a search engine marketing firm that helps their clients get noticed on the Internet. Search engine marketing is another new concept to me but totally makes sense. You can wear yourself out trying to promote your own website. It used to be that it was enough just to have a website on the Internet, and you would get noticed. Now you need a plan to get people to your website. Since most people will find your site through search engines, it’s very important to learn how to get the best ranking to make sure visitors will find your quality site.

Apogee has decided to endorse the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization (SEMPO) with Gold Circle Support. SEMPO is looking to establish standards in search engine optimization and other emerging markets. This is a great idea which will further legitimize the Internet’s money making capabilities.

I still have a lot to learn, but it’s good to know there are businesses that believe in fair and ethical practices when it comes to the Internet.
