More Love for The Queen’s Knight

Way Off Topic No Comments »

The Queen’s Knight is becoming my favorite manga or mangwha(Korean). A lot of manga I read I do enjoy but have trouble fully understanding. Not so with The Queen’s Knight. So, I’ve been on a quest to find volume 3.

I rented volume 1 from the library. Apparently that is the only volume they have. I bought volume 2 on Amazon. I went back today and bought volume 1 on Amazon as well. There is no volume 3 listed on Amazon and can’t find it locally. All that is available here is volume 5. I’m tempted to pick it up but hate to because I’ll want to read it. I need to read 3 and 4 first.

I wish Megaglobe, the international search engine, would launch already. Searches for The Queen’s Knight on Google and Yahoo are not that helpful. I’ll keep looking though. If you see this not so popular title, give it a read. It’s a pretty good read.

Guitar Hero Cheats

As I’m slowly working on the task of becoming a Guitar Hero, I can’t help but to notice the cool stuff in the game that is unlockable with enough money. You earn money beginning in the medium track. Too bad you can’t earn money on the easy track. So far I have made around $1K. Most shows I play I’m making $100. At this rate it’ll take forever to unlock all the goodies of Guitar Hero.

Today I did a search for Guitar Hero cheats and found a few interesting ones. I can’t say I found exactly what I was looking for. I guess I was hoping for a money cheat like in The Sims but no such luck yet. I may have to try the Guitar Hero cheat that makes the crowd has monkey heads. The cheat that the rocker plays air guitar could be fun as well.

Clock Radio

One of the gifts I’m thinking about getting my husband is a new clock radio. Although he likes the one he currently has, it’d be nice to have one that was more feature-rich and easier for me to operate since most of the time the alarm goes off after he is out of bed.

There are many options now in choosing a digital radio and a lot of factors to think about before purchasing one. With his clock radio, a CD player would be a nice bonus. Since most CDs we do not listen to every song by the artist, having a clock radio with a programmable CD player is a must have feature. This way we can hear the songs we won’t and not suffer through the other music.

In a world filled with MP3 players, it feels a little backwards to be focusing on a radio. I still love radio and listen to it way more than my MP3s. It’s just been a while since I bought a digital radio so a refresher course into what to look for is helpful.

Casual Games for Christmas

Game Talk No Comments »

As a casual gamer, nothing gets me more excited than a new game. It doesn’t matter if it’s video, board, or card, I love them all. I think casual games make a great gift for gamers and non-gamers alike.

Who hasn’t heard of Bejeweled or Bookworm and wouldn’t enjoy owning it? Casual games are affordable and usually don’t require high performance from computers. So, for someone with a little older computer can still play new casual games.

This Christmas you can simplify your giving while giving them a gift they will use. Casual games are the way to go with thousands of titles to choose from.

Wall Art Idea

I’ve been looking into personalized photo gifts for various family members this holiday. While I’ve found many impressive photo items, none are as impressive as Wallhogs.

Wallhogs are your photos or graphics that can be up to 7 feet tall by 4 feet wide printed on a semi-adhesive vinyl. Wallhogs are affordable and are priced under $100. While this may not be a gift idea for anyone on my list, I’m thinking of the possibilities for some of the walls in our home. The game room has a wall perfect for some of our artwork or a scene from Halo, The Sims, or other favorite game. A wallhog for the baby’s room gives us a great option for re-decorating without painting or hanging wallpaper. The possibilities are swarming. If I can’t find the right photo or image, Wallhogs is adding a gallery of stock wallhogs to choose from. A lot of options to mull over. First I need to measure that wall to see just how much space I actually have free.

Guitar Hero

I finally bit the bullet and bought as PS2! Friends of ours have Guitar Hero and naturally we became hooked afer one jam session. So, this weekend we purchased Guitar Hero.

We had some great rational for buying the game. Our nephew is knee-deep into Final Fantasy XII and has been playing it all through his Thanksgiving break. Buying Guitar Hero would give him a much needed rest from FF. We have been playing Guitar Hero so much that now I’m thinking about finger positions while I listening to music or sleeping.

The baby seems to enjoy the game as well. She loves to dance, so this Guitar Hero gives some great music to bounce around to.

Wii Praise

While I haven’t bought a Nintendo Wii yet, I have head some great things from Wii owners. People are really loving the nunchuk controller as it seems to really add to the fun of the games.

The Wii will be the first next gen console we get. While not as technically as impressive as the 360 or the PS3, the price is right. Besides, historically Nintendo has released more games that I really like than anyone else.

PS3 Line Update

Apparently in town there were a few lines that formed for the PS3. There are even reports of people standing in line, then selling their spot in line. That’s just insane. At release, there are just a handful of games for the PS3. Sure, you can play PS2 and PSOne games but why rush out to buy the console just for that?

I’ve already heard of one person who had their console freeze up after a couple of minutes of playing. I never like to buy any product at release just because there seems to be more problems that are fixed in later productions. I did notice at the Gamestop they have the banner that says “Xbox 360 now in stock.” Of the next gen consoles, the Wii will be the first we get because of price. I won’t be standing in line for a Wii either. Nintendo has been in the gaming business for a while and seem prepared to massively release their system. Hopefully it won’t be too hard to pick one up in a few months.

Teaching 9th Grade Sunday School

Way Off Topic No Comments »

While it is now technically called Youth Faith Formation at our parish, it is Sunday School class. I teach 9th grade, and this is my third year to do so. I’ve seen a pattern through the years in that we start off with good numbers at the beginning but by the end of the year we wind up with about four who regularly attend.

At this age students can make some of their own decisions like to stay at home or to go to another church. Being a convert, it’s disappointing to see the numbers for attendance slowly go down each week. Unfortunately, it’s not just Sunday School numbers that are sliding but mass attendance as well.

What can be done to bring Catholics back to mass? The Catholic Show is a podcast that offers their insight on how to bring Catholics back. Other churches offer a complete array of services at their church that might be a trend that Catcholic churches may want to study. I think as Catholics we can learn a lot from other chuches about getting people involved in church. As a former Baptist, I try and bring some of what I think will help keep students coming to Sunday School into the classroom. Of couse, 9th grade is just a difficult age to be too interested in church. Hopefully some of the lessons and messages will stick with them.

Guitar Hero

So, last night we hosted a game night for some friends. We played some Ultimate Alliance on the Xbox, which was fun. One friend brought over his PS2 and Guitar Hero. Now, I’m hooked. I definitely will be getting a PS2 this holiday season. I have two games I want: Kingdom Hearts and Guitar Hero.

With Guitar Hero, I could just listen to the songs. That in itself is a lot of entertainment for me. My husband joked last night the we would be getting it today. I told him we could run and get a PS3 since it was after midnight. We’ll still have to wait on the PS3. I didn’t get to a look at the line at Wal-Mart since I was too busy getting ready for game night. I’m sure they have not sysems left if they even got any in. I’m curious to see how much of a shortage there will be this Christmas.
