The Sims and the Bare Naked Ladies

I periodically check out TheSims2.com to see get the latest news on The Sims. The Bare Naked Ladies have three songs for download on The Sims 2. I downloaded one and started listening to it. I love the BNL and couldn’t make out what they were saying, so I cranked up the volume.

Then I noticed they were singing in Sim speak! It’s the funniest thing. The song was really good, and I love it. I think I will go back and grab the other two.

Also, the BNL have a new album out! I can’t wait to hear some of their new stuff.

It seems everyone I know is going to Disney World for Thanksgiving holidays this year. I’m a huge Disney fan and sadly we won’t be going this Thanksgiving. Just as soon as the little one is old enough we are heading to the Magic Kingdom. We may have a few years to plan our trip.
Did you know that over 43 million people visit Orlando, Florida in a year? That’s a very impressive number of visitors. There seven major theme parks in Orlando. Where do all those visitors stay? Orlando has 100,000 hotel rooms. 100,000 hotel rooms just doesn’t seem nearly enough for what averages to be over 115,000 visitors a day. There are plenty of other Orlando vacation rental destinations. Vacations homes, townhouses, and condos give plenty of options for visitors to have a taste of the amenities of a home.

Today is Talk like a Pirate day! Does life get any better than this? Pirates of the Caribbean has really helped raise Pirate awareness and popularity. Pirates in video games are seemingly everywhere these days.
My friends over at My Gamer have a review of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow. I haven’t played it yet. I’m still slowly working through Sid Meier’s Pirates! Pirates of the Caribbean online is coming next year to a broadband connection near you.

There are plenty of pirate games including Pirate Battle for the Nintendo DS. Puzzle game Pirate Poppers is available through Real Arcade. Gamers Hell has Puzzle Pirates, a multiplayer(MMOG) puzzle game. Plenty of ways to enjoy pirates and those things associated with pirates through gaming.
Aye, a pirates life for me!

I ran across this through the forum at Aeoncube and thought it’d be perfect to mention here. It’s the game Savage, which you can download the FULL, that’s right FULL, version for FREE. Another thing that makes Savage awesome is that it supports Linux! Hooray! Now with my Linux newbie self, hopefully I can figure out just how to install it on Linux.

Savage is an RTS(real time strategy)/first person shooter game. You play Savage online. I’m not a big fan of RTS but will check this one out just to see how it does on Linux.

How to Play Video Games with a Baby

Game Talk 12 Comments »

Here is some sage advice for those gaming parents with babies. Since the birth of our daughter, our gaming time has decreased a lot. We still like to play some video games in the evening. We have rather developed our own little system for keeping our daughter content while we play video games. This is how a typical evening goes in our household. Daddy starts to play his game on his PC. Most of the time that game is Civilization. Since Daddy does not need to type much playing this game, he can hold Raegan while he plays. She enjoys this for a while but inevitably gets restless. When this happens, she is “banished” to the floor.

Once on the floor and since we aren’t very good housekeepers, she usually finds something of interest down there. When she grows tired of it, she crawls over to my chair, pulls herself up and proceeds to “chat” with me for a while. When that becomes old, I pick her up, give her some love and attempt to hold her and game. My technique is less successful than Daddy’s because my PC games of choice require me to use the keyboard. Raegan loves my keyboard and once she sets her sights on it, there is nothing else in the world she wants more. It’s usually at this point that I give up trying to play my game and leave the computer room with baby in tow.

We usually return a short time later after spending some time in the living room. Eventually Raegan winds up back on the floor playing. She’ll get fussy, and Daddy invites her to sit with him. Then the cycle of events starts over.Sometimes we do mix it up by placing her in her walker. She is usually content in her walker for 15-30 minutes. Sometimes she even still plays in her playpen. Our daughter will play for hours with toys that are not really “toys.”

Raegan’s favorite toy is her keyboard. It?s an old wireless keyboard does not work, so it is perfect for her to bang on. She enjoys our old cell phone, too. These toys stay in the computer room and are great for keeping her entertained while we game.

This is our “secret” for gaming with our little one. It’s worked well so far.

Nintendo DS Lite Coral

Ok, my desire for a DS Lite was solidified this weekend when I was in a Toys R Us flyer a Nintendo DS Lite in the color coral, or pink. With a pricetag of $129 and pink, the DS looks to be all but mine. I’m actually excited again about the DS. I enjoyed having mine but was unimpressed with the games. These past six-eight months the DS market has really filled out nicely.
