Vintage Game Vault: Dr. Mario
Way Off Topic September 6th, 2006Dr. Mario is my favorite puzzle game of all time. Although it can be so frustrating to play, Dr. Mario is really addicting and hard to put down.
More than one dream has been filled with those multi-colored pills being thrown at a feverishly fast pace from the good doctor. Oh how those viruses taunt me. It’s such a simple game; line up four colored pills(or half a pill) to remove them from play. With each passing level more viruses are added to the pill jar, making it more difficult to clear them all.
My in-laws absolutely loved this game. What was sad was their TV showed the blue pills as “green.” I put “green” in italics because it wasn’t really green-looking. It was more blue than anything but to them it was green. It’s hard to play Dr. Mario without a little help from bystanders. Oh people try to be so helpful with their suggestions of “Green down, Green down!” I’m like “which color do you see as “green”? The yellow pills favored green more than the blue ones.
Looking back, I think it was all a ploy so my turn at playing wouldn’t last as long. That I would grow frustrated faster with the game and turn over the controls to the next eager competitor. Now I’m onto their game. Too bad all the consoles broke so now there is just Dr. Mario for GBA in their house.
