Dungeon Crawl Inc

Way Off Topic No Comments »

I’m happy to tell you about one of my new favorite web comics. As much as I love gaming, I love comics more. I’m always happy to find good, quality comics to share with my friends.

Dungeon Crawl Inc. will ring true to any role player. In fact, it’ll probably be funny to those who have never flung the dice before. Start from the beginning, which is copyrighted 2002 so there will be plenty to read for a while. Next comic posted every weekend.

PGA Championship

Way Off Topic No Comments »

I’m hoping Phil Mickelson can pull it off again and win the 2006 PGA Championship. Phil is a class act on and off the golf course. One of the reasons I enjoy watching the PGA is that while you may root for your favorite to win, you never are disappointed that someone else won. This truly is a gentlemen’s game with the PGA made up of some of the finest and most outstanding athletes in professional sports.

TNT will be streaming love coverage of the 2006 PGA Championship on the web. The PGA pipeline can be viewed on PGA.com. For those who can’t be in attendance this is the next best thing.

National Left Handed Day

News No Comments »

Today is National Left Handed Day. I don’t know why this slightly obsure holiday I always remember each year. I first learned of National Left Handed Day when I was in high school. Ever since it has stuck with me.

I’m not left handed, although I do tend to favor my left hand for certain tasks over my right like throwing a ball or playing pool. Are video game controllers really made for right handed people? Ofcourse, most games now have settings to allow you to set up which buttons do what on the controller. This was you can tailor the tasks to what is most comfortable for you.

Learn more about left handed and take the quiz how left are you at www.lefthandersday.com.

PC turns 25

MTV isn’t the only 20th century icon to celebrate 25 years. It’s been 25 years since IBM introduced the first PC. Weighing in at 20 pounds and with a whopping 16KB of RAM, the PC had a hefty pricetag of $1600.

Has PC gaming changed since its early days. I remember playing a Star Trek game through a BBS(bulletin board system..think forum but without the graphics and with chat) back in college. It was really cool to play against other people. The graphics were really nonexistent but still it was a blast.

There are a lot of fine, beautiful games on the market today but if they aren’t fun then what is the point? Guess goes to show what made a game fun “back in the day” still rings true today.

More about our trip

We’ve been home nearly a week, but I miss Florida so much. It was great to get away. We were in a lot of traffic near the Orlando exit. I was talking about people returning from vacation when my husband said that people in Florida don’t need to vacation they live it!

Florida does have it all. For vacationers, Central Florida packs a lot of punch with seven major theme parks. There is always something to do and see in Orlando. I now know why there was so much traffic at the Orlando exit.

Did you know Orlando is the number one tourist destination in the U.S.? There are over 100,000 hotel rooms in Orlando. However, hotels aren’t the only option when it comes to a place to stay in Orlando. An Orlando vacation rental can land you in downtown in one of its historic homes or luxury condominiums. The view of downtown Orlando is a sight to see. Local restaurants, bars, and discos give breathe to the nightlife. Vacation rentals can also be found in historic neighborhoods like Thorton Park and Lake Cherokee.

Theme parks, sandy beaches, and a beautiful countryside are just some of the attraction of Florida. Is it too early to plan for next year’s vacation?

I have to admit that I really enjoyed the movie Dodgeball. Maybe part of the reason is the huge crush I have on Vince Vaughn but more importantly it was a funny movie.

While crusing some free online games, I came across Dodgeball so I had to play it. After breezing through the first two levels, I see my dodgeball skills from 3rd grade are still there. Playing dodgeball must be like riding a bike in that once you know how to do it you never forget.

The online dodgeball takes some liberties with the game. In round two you also have to avoid being shot with a ball out of an airgun. I assume that the higher rounds throw similiar and harder obstacles at you. Too bad my interest was lost during round two. Ah, the joys of casual gaming. There is absolutely no desire to finish or advance in games. Play while it’s fun and forget about it.

XP on PSP?

This clever PSP portal, pspWxp, simulates the look of Windows XP on your PSP. It comes with some games, a text editor(beta..no save option), calculator, Internet Explorer. pspWxp also has an icon that allows you to explore your psp memory stick. It’s nice. The latest version is still in beta and is somewhat buggy. Join the forums, report the bugs, and wait for the update because this is definitely one app you’ll want to use.

Video Game Firsts Arcade Wedding

Way Off Topic No Comments »

Did you know that a couple back May 1982 are credited as the first couple to be married in an arcade? Kyle Riley and Jo Linda Richardson wed next to the Pac Man at Fun Factory, the place where they met. Their wedding cake topper was Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man. The bridal suite consisted of a Pac-Man game and a roll of quarters. I bet the wedding favors were equally as interesting. Maybe guests had to earn arcade points and then “purchase” a little trinket from the arcade to remember the occassion.

Wedding favors can vary just as much as the theme of the wedding. A good choice for wedding favors is always Jordan Almonds. Since almonds hold special meaning–they are to remind guests that life can be both bitter and sweet– it might be nice to attach a little card with the thought behind the treat of almonds.

Make sure table wedding favors match the decor of the reception. Choose ribbons and materials that will match your wedding colors. For place settings instead of using the standard card placers try using mini picture frames or even Christmas ornaments. For higher end gifts, address the gift to the couple. For your single friends give one gift to each of them.

Instead of splurging on wedding favors, think about giving the money to your favorite charity. Guests will surely not mind knowing that you opted to give the money away in lieu of wedding favors.

For a homemade wedding favor, fill jars with penny candy. If you are reusing containers, be sure to clean and rinse thoroughly.

You can either place wedding favors on the tables for everyone to partake of or have them at the door as people leave. If it is colder weather, when guests pick up their coats you can have the attendant pass out wedding favors.

So much planning goes into the special day. Seems like the day should last longer.

Wildcoins

Wildtangent is taking the casual game market into a different direction. We’ve all downloaded trial versions of game that give us an hour to get good and hooked on something. Being casual gamers there is no way if we spend the $20 for the game will we ever play it that much to justify buying it.

Enter Wildcoins. Wildcoins are like game tokens. They give you access to play a game with no time limits. The games download to your computer and after installation you can sign onto your Wildtangent account and use or buy Wildcoins to play the game. If you are collecting Mycoke reward caps then you can buy Wildcoins with your points.

I tested out Wildcoins with the game Bookworm Deluxe. It cost me four Wildcoins. I played until I finally “died” and started another game. So, my four Wildcoins were good for the whole sessions and not just until I died. I haven’t read through all of the regulations and how it works, but first impression is that Wildcoins seems to be a pretty cool outlet to play casual games.
