Lawyers’ Fees
Way Off Topic August 26th, 2006It’s hard to believe two anniversaries are fast approaching. First, the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina followed by the 5th anniversary of September 11th.
Here’s an interesting case involving lawyers fees and the one September 11th widow. She had hired a lawyer to represent her to the Victim’s Compensation Fund created for those who lost loved ones on 9/11. Her attorney asked for a $2,000,000 contingency fee. The attorney then filed a federal suit to receive a declaratory judgment that would entitle him to his fee. The woman then hires Simmons, Jannace & Stagg to represent her in the federal suit. Simmons, Jannace & Stagg moved to have the matter dropped from federal court, and the judge ageed.
Nice to see justice is still carried out in some places still.
