Lawyers’ Fees

Way Off Topic No Comments »

It’s hard to believe two anniversaries are fast approaching. First, the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina followed by the 5th anniversary of September 11th.

Here’s an interesting case involving lawyers fees and the one September 11th widow. She had hired a lawyer to represent her to the Victim’s Compensation Fund created for those who lost loved ones on 9/11. Her attorney asked for a $2,000,000 contingency fee. The attorney then filed a federal suit to receive a declaratory judgment that would entitle him to his fee. The woman then hires Simmons, Jannace & Stagg to represent her in the federal suit. Simmons, Jannace & Stagg moved to have the matter dropped from federal court, and the judge ageed.

Nice to see justice is still carried out in some places still.

Having a Linux machine, I can totally relate to the frustrations that Mac users must experience when they find software or web application they want to use but can’t because there is no Mac version.

Poker players who use a Mac might be interested in PokerRoom. A review of the site can be found at pokeronamac.com. Apparently, PokerRoom was the first to offer Mac compatible software poker rooms. Their support is suppose to be very helpful as well.

The World Series of Poker may have just ended, but a lot of the action will be shown on ESPN in the coming weeks. Watching poker is a good way to see poker hands played by the pros. Some poker rooms online allow you to play against pros. Pokeronamac has some sage advice about playing a room with pros. Basically that some people foolishly try to beat the pros and wind up losing a lot of money. Remember whoever your opponent may be, always play smart.

Folding@home is a project that uses a piece of software installed on your computer to harness some of you computer’s ability to help find cures for diseases. I’ve heard of things like this before where you can lend some of your CPU processor to help projects like this.

Folding just recently announced they have a PlayStation 3 client so now PS3 owners can lend some of their PS3’s computing power to a higher calling. Interesting. I know gamers are big givers, just look at the annual Penny Arcade toy drive, and you’ll see gamers have big hearts. It’s kind of exiciting gamers can have a chance to help out a worthy cause.
