Fate of Beverly Drive In Unknown
News August 21st, 2006The Bevery Drive In is a landmark in Hattiesburg, MS. The drive in had been closed down but reopened a few years back, showing double features each night expect for Christmas. That was until Hurricane Katrina. The two screen drive in suffered a lot of damage. The owner has no plans to repair the drive in because the costs are too great. It is estimated it’ll take $100,000. She is probably looking to sell the place.
The Beverly has a great story. The family that owns it also live on the grounds. I wish I had the resources to do something with the theatre because it sure deserves to be repaired and enjoyed. I was so looking forward to taking our daughter to the drive in. Maybe someone or a group with deep pockets will realize the potential of the theatre and take on the project of renovating it.
If you have never been to a drive in, if you ever get the chance, go to one. It’s a wonderful way to watch a movie.

I, too, wish the Beverly could be reopened. I attend WCU, and I have done several research assignments on the Bev. I also attended two movies there since I moved to H’burg back in Aug 03, and I wish that something can be done. Of all the $5 and $10 bills floating around in Hattiesburg citizens’ coat pockets, a donation MAY get the ball rolling on getting this amazing landmark back on its feet. But where to begin?
