Homecoming Parade theme “video games”

Way Off Topic 2 Comments »

A high school in Illinois has decided on theme of their homecoming parade: video games. What a novel idea. Just think of the possibilities for float options. From Mario to Master Chief, there is a video game character for everyone and every occassion.

I would have to do a float for Mario though. You could easily dress like the characters and make mushrooms to sit on during the parade. Crank up the theme music and viola! It’s a Mario Party.

I’ve never missed high school until this moment. This would be a fun project to be part of.

Family Game Room

We recently moved out bed out of our bedroom into another room in the house. It’s a little unconventional, but we decided it’s more important to sleep under the air conditioner than in a hot bedroom. Since we did this, it leaves one room in the house wide open and unclaimed. Oh the possibilities!

We’re thinking of making it a family game room. The television is already in there as well as the Dreamcast. The other two console systems are still in the living room. I think it would be a perfect room to play my Dreamcast in. Now to find furniture.

I found a great source of some interesting items to place in our family game room. FamilyRecRoom.com has this lovely Penthouse movie theater seat that would look so good in our new game room. A set would be perfect for challenging the hubby to a game of Hydro Thunder. Too many cool products and just not enough money or space.

Casual Game Spotlight: Qbeez

Games No Comments »

Qbeez is a puzzle game that is a lot of fun. The object is to clear all the Qbeez from the board. Click on a group of Qbeez (2 or more) to remove from the board. Each round is timed, so you don’t have a lot of time for strategy.

What makes game so fun is the adorable Qbeez. The animations are cute like when you can’t clear some Qbeez and they are left behind, they cry some. That might sound mean to think animated beings crying is funny, but it is. When you clear a level, you are treated to a nice, little animation featuring Qbeez. This game has lots of color too, which makes it just pretty to look at.

What can I say? I’m a Qbeez fan. I think once you try it you will be too.

Post it notes for the web

I’ve been tinkering around with a plugin called Trailfire for Mozilla Firefox. Basically it’s a way to share things you find on the web with others while also allowing you to add your own comments about the webpages.

I used Trailfire to create a trail of some the PSP games that look interesting to me as a casual gamer. Adding more to my list or creating a new one is as simple as clicking a button on my toolbar. You can either post the link of your trail or email it to friends. I like that it’s a way to organize what you find that you want to share on the Internet.

Family Guy Video Game

Apparently the cast of Family Guy is lending their voicing talents to the video game of the same name that is due out this fall.

The game is described as “interactive humor” and is from the people who brought us Leisure Suit Larry.

Also, some 200 cameo appearances of other Family Guy characters will have a spot in the game. Family Guy is coming to the PS2, Xbox and PSP.

Lawyers’ Fees

Way Off Topic No Comments »

It’s hard to believe two anniversaries are fast approaching. First, the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina followed by the 5th anniversary of September 11th.

Here’s an interesting case involving lawyers fees and the one September 11th widow. She had hired a lawyer to represent her to the Victim’s Compensation Fund created for those who lost loved ones on 9/11. Her attorney asked for a $2,000,000 contingency fee. The attorney then filed a federal suit to receive a declaratory judgment that would entitle him to his fee. The woman then hires Simmons, Jannace & Stagg to represent her in the federal suit. Simmons, Jannace & Stagg moved to have the matter dropped from federal court, and the judge ageed.

Nice to see justice is still carried out in some places still.

Poker on a Mac

Mac Gaming No Comments »

Having a Linux machine, I can totally relate to the frustrations that Mac users must experience when they find software or web application they want to use but can’t because there is no Mac version.

Poker players who use a Mac might be interested in PokerRoom. A review of the site can be found at pokeronamac.com. Apparently, PokerRoom was the first to offer Mac compatible software poker rooms. Their support is suppose to be very helpful as well.

The World Series of Poker may have just ended, but a lot of the action will be shown on ESPN in the coming weeks. Watching poker is a good way to see poker hands played by the pros. Some poker rooms online allow you to play against pros. Pokeronamac has some sage advice about playing a room with pros. Basically that some people foolishly try to beat the pros and wind up losing a lot of money. Remember whoever your opponent may be, always play smart.

Use PS3 for the Greater Good

Folding@home is a project that uses a piece of software installed on your computer to harness some of you computer’s ability to help find cures for diseases. I’ve heard of things like this before where you can lend some of your CPU processor to help projects like this.

Folding just recently announced they have a PlayStation 3 client so now PS3 owners can lend some of their PS3’s computing power to a higher calling. Interesting. I know gamers are big givers, just look at the annual Penny Arcade toy drive, and you’ll see gamers have big hearts. It’s kind of exiciting gamers can have a chance to help out a worthy cause.

Ninga Battles

Ninjabattles.com has an interesting browser game where you play either a ninja or samurai. Fans of Legend of the Green Dragon will probably like this one as play is sort of similar. You can buy weapons, go on missions, even buy property. You can even attack other players.
I played until my health got dangerously low and decided to logout. A nice bonus to Ninga Battles is that cash prizes are rewarded after each round(100 days) to the best team. I can’t wait to start recruiting my video game friends as I’m sure this will be a hit.

The Dangers of Guitar Hero..?

Way Off Topic No Comments »

Have you seen this site? www.guitarherobrokemyknee.com. Apparently while trying to earn some extra points, this guy hurt his knee while playing Guitar Hero.
The site is cute and chronicles his injury and recovery. While I’ve never hurt my knee as serious as he has (ouch! from looking at the pics), I know these things can happen in a split second. Here’s wishing him a speedy recovery and luck on kicking Craig’s tail next time you play GH!
