Comic Con Begins Tomorrow

Comic Con is set for July 20-23 in San Diego. Tomorrow’s schedule features the seminar “Writing for the Computer Gaming Industry.” I really enjoy writing and have never really thought about where the writing for games comes from. The video game scripts have to have an author. It would be interesting to learn more but alas I’m not in San Diego.

Also on tap for tomorrow: Lionsgate Presents Crank, Skinwalkers, and Saw III. Actor Jason Stratham(Transporter) will be there. Stratham stars in Crank, which follows the adventures of a hitman who has been poisoned and will die if his heartrate drops below a certain beat. It almost sounds like another incarnation of Speed. Throw in a few changes, and Hollywood thinks they have something orginal on their hands. It could be pretty good. My husband and I talk about Lionsgate movies are usually a hit or a miss. We’ll see where Crank falls once it’s released.

More Comic Con news coming as the show gets underway.

KeyStroke Logger

Since becoming a parent, I think differently about a lot of things. My child is still a baby, but I can’t help but to think of the future. Then the neurosis kicks in full gear. How do I protect her from everything? There is the logical side of me that says she will have bumps and bruises that I will not be able to stop from happening. She might get teased at school, and I will have very little I can do for her except give her comfort.

Since we are huge gamers, I’m not too worried about the impact of video games or role playing games on her. I feel since we are seasoned players that we make good choices of games for her. Hopefully this will lead to her making the right decisions one day.

Another area that worries me is the Internet. We have already talked about she will not have a computer in her room, but we won’t be able to monitor the computer 24 hours a day. I hope my child makes good choices about the Internet especially when it comes to talking to people online.

I want to respect her privacy when she is older, but I don’t want to be foolish. That’s why SpectorSoft’s keystroke logger is so intriguing to me. Keystroke logger software logs every keystroke made on a keyboard. While the benefit to companies is good–they can keep track of the productivity of their employees, for personal use keylogging software might come across as not trusting other members of the household. I don’t think it’s about the trust I have in my daughter but the intentions of the billions of people who are online. It can be so easy to be duped by someone. It’s scary to watch the stings that catch people going to a house of a minor for lustful purposes–to put it mildly. You can never be too careful when it comes to your children and to their safety.

Before I am ready, our daughter will be out on her own but as long as she is in my care I will do everything to protect her.
